Steve Mitgang, CEO
A digital technology visionary and proven business builder, Steve is known for creating and managing products and companies for high growth and market success. He has secured funding for and matured technology startups; steered mergers and acquisitions; conceived, launched and directed a multi-billion-dollar internet advertising platform, and driven companies to success by forging rewarding partnerships, acquiring top talent and building winning teams. Prior to SmartDrive, Steve was CEO of Veoh, the Internet television company now part of Qlipso, and before that he served as Senior Vice President of Yahoo!’s advertising products, platforms, and services. Steve holds a degree in architecture from the University of California, Berkeley.
Jason Palmer, President
Jason Palmer brings over 20 years of leadership delivering products to market for fast-growing technology companies such as Qualcomm, Now Software, Clientele Software, and Tut Systems. Prior to joining SmartDrive, Jason was the Vice President of Product Management and Marketing at Webtrends, Inc, responsible for defining the product development and go-to-market strategies for the award-winning Marketing Lab suite of digital marketing solutions. As a founding member of the 800.com Electronics management team he pioneered selling consumer electronics online, growing the company to $50 million in four years. He is a graduate of Oregon State University with degrees in Marketing and Economics.
Aidan Rowsome, VP EMEA
Aidan Rowsome is Vice President EMEA, for SmartDrive. A seasoned senior executive leader with over 25 years of experience in high-tech organisations, he is responsible for all aspects of SmartDrive’s European operations from sales to service. Aidan’s experience in leadership positions at technology companies encompassed the design and implementation of operational strategies and tactics in SaaS, cloud, telematics and legacy software sectors. In particular, Aidan is a specialist in cloud and SaaS-based business solutions in fleet and risk management, most recently serving as Head of Cloud Practice for Unity Technology Solutions; SVP of Sales and General Manager, Europe for GreenRoad Technologies; Managing Director, Software Solutions of RAC plc; and Vice President of Global Sales for Northcore Technologies. Aidan is an acknowledged telematics and fleet risk management industry expert who is regularly asked to contribute to UK trade press and industry conferences. Aidan has degrees in Mathematics and Physics from University College, Dublin and the Institute of Physics, London.
Michael J. Baker, VP Worldwide Sales
Mike brings over 20 years of experience in the technology, trucking and construction industries. As a senior sales executive, his track record of success in leading growth-focused sales teams was proven at telematics companies such as Navman Wireless, Qualcomm Omnitracs and HighwayMaster. Prior to entering the telematics industry, he held prominent sales leadership roles with Saunders Cash Control, Trendar and Fleet Control Services American Express. Mike has served on the Board of Trustees for the Association of Equipment Management Professionals Foundation whose charter provided scholastic funding for individuals pursuing careers in the construction industry. Mike earned a BS from the University of Tennessee at Martin, and has served in both the Tennessee Army National Guard and the United States Marine Corps Reserve.
Mark Freitas, VP Product Management
As Vice President of Product Management at SmartDrive, Mark is responsible for delivering a superior customer experience through product strategy, definition, and development. He brings over 15 years of experience in product management, marketing, and services delivery at leading technology companies and over 7 years in fleet operations and safety. Prior to joining SmartDrive, Mark was the Director of Product Management at DriveCam responsible for the company’s Driver Risk Management programmes for families and commercial fleets. Before joining DriveCam, he worked at Hewlett-Packard managing joint marketing and product development partnerships with top-tier service providers. Mark began his career at KPMG. Mark earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering at Brown University, a Masters in Applied Economics at the University of Michigan, and an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management.
Wendy Wyatt, VP Client Services
As Vice President of Client Services, Wendy Wyatt is responsible for delivering an exceptional client experience through service delivery, ongoing account management and technical support. A technology industry veteran, Wendy brings over 20 years of experience leading IT, technical support, product management and service delivery teams. Prior to SmartDrive, she was Sr. Director of Client Services for PatientSafe Solutions, where she created, led, and directed technical support, integration and manufacturing for the medical products company. In her career she also held senior positions in product management, development, and technical services with Open Text and Bluebird Systems. Wendy earned a BS in Computer Information Systems from California State Polytechnic University.
Shawn Swaney, VP Finance
With more than 18 years of experience, Shawn Swaney has led finance and accounting at public and private high-growth companies, most recently as VP Finance with SGB, Inc., a start-up energy crop company with international operations in the US, Guatemala, India and Brazil. He previously served as vice president and controller at DivX, Inc., a public digital media software company. Prior to DivX, Swaney served as vice president, accounting and controller at Novatel Wireless, a leading provider of wireless broadband access solutions. He has held management positions at Isis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Gateway, Inc. and served as an audit manager at KPMG. He holds a bachelor of science degree in accounting from San Diego State University.
Dan Lehman, VP Corporate Development
Dan brings over 15 years of experience in finance, mergers and acquisitions, and private equity in the U.S., Europe, and Asia. Prior to joining SmartDrive, he was Director of Mergers and Acquisitions at Viaspace, Inc., a $150 million public technology company. Previously, Dan was a key member of the Strategy and Corporate Development team at Case Corporation, a $6 billion manufacturer of heavy equipment, and was responsible for all acquisitions, recapitalisations, divestitures, and joint ventures for the company’s worldwide operations. Dan earned a BS in Information Systems from Kettering University (formerly General Motors Institute) and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Melissa Purcell, VP of Marketing
Melissa has over 15 years experience and a strong track record building and leading global marketing organisations. As the Vice President of Marketing, Melissa is responsible for global go-to-market strategy, product marketing and marketing communications. Most recently, Melissa was the Vice President of Marketing for Accelrys, Inc., where she built the global marketing team and drove the marketing strategy to support a corporate re-launch and five successive acquisitions. Before Accelrys, Melissa held senior positions at WebSideStoryInc., a SaaS-based digital marketing company acquired by Omniture/Adobe, Peregrine Systems and several San Diego start-ups. Melissa earned a BSBA from Georgetown University and an MBA from the University of California, Irvine.
Andy Deninger, VP of Engineering
With nearly two decades of developing telematics platforms, Andy Deninger is responsible for spearheading product innovation for SmartDrive’s video based safety and transportation analytics platform, as well as its application development and firmware quality assurance. Andy comes to SmartDrive from Omnitracs, LLC, formerly a business unit of Qualcomm, where he led the engineering division and helped build the department’s expansive hardware and software solutions. Andy drives the strategic roadmap, reinforcing the long term value the company’s flexible, open platform delivers to customers. Andy holds a B.A. in Applied Mathematics with a minor in Computer Information Systems from Humboldt State University.
Dave Muller, VP of Infrastructure Development and Delivery
Dave has over 15 years in high availability and performance web based infrastructure development, implementation, delivery and operations at companies like Netflix, The Active Network, Veoh Networks and Yahoo. Dave joins SmartDrive from FICO where he was leading the company’s infrastructure migration to support SaaS products and was a key player in the technical due diligence of FICO’s last five acquisitions. At the Active Network Dave’s team won Active’s 2011 Technical Initiative award for their virtualization/private cloud implementation and he actively participated in the Company’s 2011 IPO. At Yahoo, Dave led the infrastructure team for the overhaul of Yahoo’s $2Bil/year advertiser systems. Dave holds a B.S. and M.S. in Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Slaven Sljivar, VP Hardware and Analytics
Slaven has over 15 years of experience in Corporate Finance, Business Consulting, IT Management, and Engineering. Prior to joining SmartDrive, he was an Analytics Manager at General Motors, where he was responsible for leading data warehousing and business intelligence initiatives, analyzing vehicle portfolio profitability, and consulting to various internal groups including OnStar. Previous to his role at GM, Slaven worked at Case Corporation as an IT Project Lead supporting Engineering and Manufacturing operations. Slaven began his career as a Controls Engineer at a systems integration vendor. Slaven holds dual BS degrees in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering at Kettering University, Flint, MI (formerly General Motors Institute), and an MBA at the MIT Sloan School of Management, Cambridge, MA.
Tom Tang, General Manager, China Operations
Tom Tang brings over 20 years of operations leadership for global technology companies. including IBM Microelectronics Division, New Focus, and W.L Gore & Associates. Prior to joining SmartDrive, Tom was the VP of Operation of Fiberxon; a leading fibre optics company which was acquired by Source Photonics. Tom joined SmartDrive in 2005, and established SmartDrive Shenzhen with engineering and manufacturing practices. Tom earned a BS in Engineering from Tianjin University in China, and an EMBA of China-European International Business School (CEIBS) in Shanghai, China.
