Derek started his working life in the Army (R.E.M.E.) as an Aircraft Technician. Since then he has had a variety of different positions in Retail Management with Asda, his own business as a Driving Instructor, Bus Driver and now works in Project Management. He joined SmartDrive in May 2017 and enjoys working with a wide range of businesses in making the installation phase as hassle free as possible.
What do you do at SmartDrive?
I organise and manage the equipment delivery and vehicle installation phase of any new sale.
Describe your job in 3 words:
Co-ordinate the installations.
What is something fleet owners have to deal with that you want to fix?
Access to and availability of vehicles, where I try to be as flexible as possible when booking in vehicles for installation. I also try to have as much sector experience as possible to help me understand the business requirements when doing this.
What are your credentials/past experience, for working in your position?
I have been in the transport industry in various roles for the past 15 years, from Driving Instructor with my own business to Bus Driver/Instructor to Project Manager with SmartDrive.
What do you like about working at SmartDrive?
Working as part of the EMEA team, as we all understand the industry and are able to work exceptionally well together to deliver quality customer service.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
I enjoy spending time with my family most of all, I also like to watch sports (too old to participate!) and we have just got a new puppy in the family named Fluke who takes up all the remaining time.
